Hello!

We are so excited to find tripawds site!  Bubba is a 12 year old pug we rescued 4 years ago.  He is blind, almost deaf and missing his front left limb.  There pretty much isn’t anything Bubba can’t do!  I am looking for information or suggestions on a front harness that will help me support his body while we go on very short walks or potty breaks in the yard.  Also, I am unable to find a sweater/coat that will stay in place for him.  They all twist and roll.  Thank you for any help or suggestions!

  1. I don’t have recommendations on harnesses that don’t twist – I’ve not had a lot of luck there. For sweaters, we’ve used the Ruffwear cloud chaser jacket and it stays put beautifully. Jack is a bit bigger than your Bubba, but she has a similar broad chest.

  2. TriPugs rule! My first tripawd was a black pug named Maggie, she lost a rear leg to cancer. My current tripawd is a pug mix who lost a rear leg to a car.
As far as harnesses- I really like the RuffWear Webmaster- lots of people on this site use them for front and rear amps. I’ve used them for three pugs for different mobility issues, and now for my pug mix. The problem I have though is fit- I’ve had to modify all the Webmasters I have had to fit my big chested and short bodied dogs (modifying them voids the warranty).
Most, if not all harnesses will rotate on front amp pups, but it usually doesn’t diminish the usefulness. I did a search in our blogs on Harness Type and got this: http://gear.tripawds.com/?s=harness+type. There are lots of articles on harnesses and uses.
I use the Webmaster Front Range for my quad pug Obie, it is a great harness for him. It is recommended here for small Tripawds but there is no lifting handle like on the WebMaster.
Do you know how Bubba lost his leg?

    1. Hi Karen and girls,

Wow! Thanks for all the info. I will definitely check them out. I adopted Bubba from a rescue 4 years ago. He was found dumped on a gravel road, blind and 3 legged. My vet assumes he was hit by a car, thus the amputation. His blindness is most likely from the head trauma. He has chronic left ear infections, multiple scars on his head,
missing teeth and a large tongue laceration that was never repaired, on the left side. (I also had an animal communicator talk to Bubba and she backed up what my vet thought, without any prior knowledge of Bubba or his history) Just a few weeks ago I had to have both of his eyes removed due to glaucoma. His pressures were getting so high and he was already blind. After a rough first few days, he is like a new puggy! He must have been uncomfortable for awhile. If only they could talk to us… Thanks again Karen for all the info! Terri and Bubba
